About the Artist

JR is a French contemporary artist and photographer renowned for creating monumental photographic installations that transform architecture into powerful platforms for storytelling. Beginning as a graffiti writer in the streets of Paris, JR gradually shifted toward photography, using large-scale wheatpaste portraits to celebrate communities, challenge perceptions, and encourage dialogue across cultural and political boundaries.

His practice is built around collaboration. Rather than simply documenting people, JR works directly with individuals and communities to create site-specific installations that address identity, migration, justice, memory, and social connection. His projects have appeared on bridges, museums, prisons, border walls, historic landmarks, and public spaces around the world, demonstrating the ability of art to engage audiences far beyond the traditional gallery setting.

In addition to his public works, JR creates photographs, films, limited edition prints, and immersive installations that are exhibited internationally. His work is represented in major museum collections and has received widespread recognition for expanding the role of public art within contemporary culture.
